$60m mozzie man

A MOSQUITO trap designed by a Burleigh Heads inventor is taking the sting out of a worldwide epidemic and is looking to achieve 400 per cent growth with sales of $60 million over the next five years.

Bantix Worldwide has just signed a $500,000 deal to export its signature product, the Mosquito Slayer Pro, to distributors in Dubai.

Another 20 countries, including Malaysia and Russia are now importing the product.

CEO Andrew Coventry, says it’s the only device in the world that kills between 83 and 98 per cent of the potentially deadly female mosquito.

“We are experiencing very major growth,” says Coventry.

“The basic plan was to get 1000 units into 24 countries, which would have netted us around $6 million in profit. We are now expecting growth of more than 400 per cent. Our main competitor in the US spent $35 million alone on advertising and they have gone under. We have spent $12,000 over six years on advertising.”

The unit is powered by a 12-volt battery and contains a ‘lure’ designed by Bantix Worldwide. It contains a mix of food stuffs that are injected with CO2 to attract the mosquito to the trap.

The company has completed its world-wide patent for the trap with Fisher Adams Kelly. The spread of diseases like Dengue and Ross River Fever and Malaria are widening. A recent outbreak of Dengue Fever in the northern regions of Queensland was upgraded to epidemic status by the State Government.

“I’m very proud of our product, it’s saving people’s lives,” says Coventry.
