US-based packaging giant TricorBraun has expanded its Australian portfolio through the acquisition of Perth’s Plas-Pak WA, extending its reach to the west coast for the first time.

The acquisition of Plas-Pak WA, a plastic packaging distributor and manufacturer founded in 1982, comes on the heels of TricorBraun snaring NSW-based Cormack Packaging in 2021 and Victoria’s PB Packaging in 2022.

The deal for the family-owned company brings to nine the number of businesses in the US company’s Australia stable since it first entered the domestic market in 2021.

While the price paid for Plas-Pak WA has not been disclosed, TricorBraun says it plans to make further investments in the company to drive growth.

Plas-Pak WA is a provider of plastic packaging, including bottles and jars, to a range a range of industries in the food, beverage, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, agriculture and chemical sectors in Australia and New Zealand.

"Over the last four decades, Plas-Pak WA has built an exceptional reputation for innovation with a strong focus on sustainable products," says Andrew Allsop, managing director of TricorBraun ANZ.

"This acquisition enables us to build on our customer service commitment in Western Australia while offering our customers expanded services.

“We welcome the Plas-Pak WA team to the TricorBraun family, and we look forward to investing in the company's continued growth."

With the deal now settled, TricorBraun says it has retained all of Plas-Pak WA’s team members who are based at the company’s existing packaging and injection moulding facility at Malaga in Perth’s north.

Plas-Pak WA’s former managing director and owner Stephen Kiss, who has led the company since 2008, describes the acquisition as a cultural fit from a corporate perspective.

"At Plas-Pak, our commitment to strong customer service and high-quality products drives everything we do," says Kiss, who is now the commercial and operations advisor of Plas-Pak WA.

"We know TricorBraun shares that same passion, and we are delighted to join such a respected packaging leader.

“We look forward to continuing our service to customers, with TricorBraun's support, resources, and investments in our growth."

TricorBraun, which was established in 1902, operates from more than 100 locations in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, employing more than 2,000 people globally.
