Growing agriculture value

THE Queensland Government’s ambitious goal of trebling the state’s value of agriculture in a decade will be the key focus at the Rural Press Club’s networking luncheon this month.

Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries, Rural and Regional Queensland, Tim Mulherin, is sure to face many questions as he presents the Government’s plans for the sunshine state’s agriculture industry to create $34 billion by 2020.

The imposing objective comes amid fierce competition for land use and the increasing push for agriculture to reduce its environmental impact.

The Rural Press Club committee is a diverse group of working journalists, media consultants and agribusiness representatives who aim to strengthen the links between rural media, public relations, agribusiness and government groups in Queensland.

The luncheon on October 13 will mark the launch of the club’s 2009 Primary Industries Week.

Since 1996 Primary Industries Week has aimed to increase public awareness and understanding of the value and importance of primary industries in Queensland.

It helps to make the young people of southeast Queensland in particular more aware of where their food, fibre and foliage comes from.

The luncheon will be hosted by United Services Club
on Wickham Terrace. More info at: www.ruralpressclub.com.au.
