GAMES GETS A FRESH BATCH OF 'MINTERNS'

MINTER Ellison has picked the cream of the crop among Griffith University's law students, to assist in working on one of the biggest projects of the decade.

These selected students will support the Minter Ellison legal team embedded within the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), taking on projects including brand protection and compliance.

Minter Ellison partner and leader of the embedded legal team Paula Robinson (pictured) says the internship experience is an invaluable opportunity to gain skills within a unique environment.

"[The internship] enables the next generation of lawyers to gain real world experience, working with and learning from a highly skilled legal team on one of the most exciting sporting events to come to the Gold Coast," says Robinson.

"It's truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are thrilled to be able to invest in the development of the newest members of our profession."

Among the chosen interns is Maddie Lacy, a local Bachelor of Laws student aiming to combine her passions for sport and the law during the internship.

"I have absolutely loved the first few weeks of the internship," says Lacy.

"I feel privileged to work as an intern for such a prestigious firm and being able to contribute to a project I am so passionate about makes every day feel less like work and more like a dream."

Other students taken under Minter Ellison's wing on the Commonwealth Games project include aspiring commercial lawyer Christian Lecordier and combined Laws / Government and International Relations student Courtney Dalton.

Griffith University students will have access to around 250 internship opportunities surrounding the Commonwealth Games, as a part of the University's Official Partnership with the event.
