Former Gumtree exec Laura Hill has been appointed managing director of Australia’s first carbon neutral delivery service Sendle.
Founded in 2014, the small business courier outfit offers door to door delivery across Australia and worldwide, helping to facilitate more than $1 billion in small business e-commerce last year.
The appointment of Hill follows a year of growth for Sendle, a certified B Corporation, as demand for e-commerce shipping continues to grow across the globe.
Hill will oversee the company’s entire Australian operation, including a growing national delivery network of more than 3,100 drivers and 900 drop-off locations across the country.
“It’s an exciting time to be at Sendle as the company continues to ramp up its growth in Australia,” Hill explained.
“After six years working in eCommerce marketplaces, a move to logistics was the most logical step for me.
“Australian small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy, and at Sendle, we're constantly evolving our products and expanding our suite of courier services to level the playing field and fulfil their shipping needs.”
Before Sendle, Hill held executive roles at Gumtree Australia and Fairfax, where she was responsible for driving the commercial business strategy and heading up the brand and sales department, respectively.
After joining Sendle as vice president of partnership development in 2021, Hill has been key to fostering commercial partnerships with eBay, Shopify, Poshmark and ShipStation
“Laura brings a unique combination of deep eCommerce experience together with a huge amount of empathy for the shipping needs of small businesses,” Sendle CEO and co-founder James Chin Moody said.
“Her knowledge and expertise are exactly what we need as we head into 2022 in the face of another year of record growth.”
Although Sendle does not currently offer an express or guaranteed overnight delivery service, same-city deliveries arrive overnight and deliveries to nearby cities within 2-3 days.
“We have an incredible pipeline of product innovations and partnerships to announce over 2022, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to bring these to life,” Hill said.
