Metro Property Development (Metro) has lodged a development application (DA) with Wollondilly Shire Council to build a new 7,280m² contemporary leisure facility aimed at bringing together residents in its masterplanned community in Sydney’s southwest.

Designed by Sydney-based H&E Architects, the modern-style venue is expected to accommodate between 800 to 1,000 people comprising a family bistro and bar, large outdoor kids' play area, beer garden, sports bar and multiple function spaces.

Long-running Sydney hotelier Feros Group will run the country club, which will be adjacent to Bingara Gorge’s golf course and located in Wilton – a southwestern town that is around 90mins from Sydney’s CBD.

Under development by Metro, Bingara Gorge is a masterplanned community that will comprise 1,800 homes upon completion in 2024. So far, around 900 homes have already been built with more than 2,000 residents now living in the community.

The new club is expected to create more than 100 jobs during construction, as well as 100-plus permanent positions.

Metro Property Development managing director Luke Hartman said that Bingara Gorge’s Country Club will become ‘the meeting place’ for Wollondilly residents.

“It will be one of the best leisure and entertainment facilities in the region and is the next step in delivering Bingara Gorge’s vision to create a world class residential estate. Bingara Gorge is fast becoming the premier golfing lifestyle destination in Sydney’s South West,” Hartman said.

Feros Group operates a number of venues across New South Wales, including The Prince at Kirrawee, the Taren Point Hotel, Highfield Caringbah, Huxley’s Caringbah and the newly acquired Berry Hotel.

“Feros Group, a very experienced Sydney hotelier will provide a superior dining and entertainment experience for residents and guests,” Hartman added.

“The Country Club forms an integral part of Bingara Gorge’s masterplan, already featuring a Graham Marsh 18-hole golf course and modern recreational facilities including a gym, tennis courts and swimming pools.”

Founded in 2010, Metro Property Development is one of Australia’s leading private residential property developers, having delivered more than 6,000 properties across 70 projects since its inception.

According to the group, its current pipeline is valued at more than $4 billion.

Bingara Gorge, which was initially started in the 2000s by LendLease (ASX: LLC), will have more than 200 hectares of open spaces, a golf course, playgrounds, tennis courts, walk and cycle paths, leisure centre, retail shops, childcare and primary school will feature in the development.

“A contemporary approach has been adopted with a vernacular style of architecture, one that is traditional in its building form with separate pavilions featuring gables, eaves and covered verandahs, overlaid with modern detailing. The venue will sit comfortably in its semi-rural setting and compliment the superb surroundings,” H&E Architects director Chris Grinham said.

“Timber cladding structures will give the entire leisure and dining experience warmth, while the use of natural materials will assist built form age gracefully and meld into the landscape.

“Spaces between the pavilions will support a variety of internal and external experiences that will assist guests to engage with the site in both a collective and intimate way. Stone fireplaces will anchor internal spaces.”

Subject to DA approval, completion of the project is expected in late 2024.
