CORPORATES TO DANCE-OFF FOR CHARITY

IN ONE of the most highly anticipated fundraising events of the year, 12 CEOs will go from boardroom to ballroom in the 2016 Dancing CEOs competition next month to help raise money for the prevention of domestic violence.

Two of Brisbane's finest legal minds are among the bunch, with Clarissa Rayward of the Brisbane Family Law Centre and Amelia Hodge of the Queensland Law Society set to kick off their Sunday shoes and cut loose in support of the Women's Legal Service (WLS).

Natalie Davidson of WLS Queensland says the event is shaping up to be one of the best Dancing CEO competitions yet, with proceeds to be directed at operating the organisation's national helpline for domestic violence and complex family law matters.

"All funds from the event will keep the new WLS Helpline running," says Davidson.

"The Helpline costs $200,000 per year to operate, and we only have funding for the Helpline until July."

Since the Helpline began in January this year, Davidson says the WLS has been able to answer five times the amount of calls and has booked in more than 300 appointments for women at risk.

Dance lessons and choreography are well under way at Mad Dance House, with the CEOs set to perform on the night before three esteemed judges, TV Presenters Damien Anthony Rossi and Liz Cantor alongside master-jeweller Karl Schwantes of Xennox Diamonds.

Network Ten's Josh Holt and media personality Michelle Anderson will co-emcee the event to be held at Brisbane's City Hall on April 15, officially supported by the Lord Mayor.

A raffle will also be held at the dance-off, with a Hyundai Accent as the major prize.

The WLS works to assist more than 3700 women and their children who have been affected by domestic violence each year. WLS estimates another 16,000 people a year remain unassisted due to its limited resources.
