COOPER GRACE WARD COUNTS DOWN TO ADVOC

AROUND 50 legal delegates from leading firms throughout the Asia-Pacific will flock to Brisbane next month, as Cooper Grace Ward (CGW) hosts the annual Advoc Asia Conference and AGM for 2016.

This marks the first time the event will be held in Brisbane, with representatives from countries including China, India and Japan set to discuss trends and challenges the legal profession is forecasted to face in the near future.

Managing Partner Chris Ward (pictured) says the event will be a key opportunity to continue building relationships with international firms, while simultaneously providing insight into our own country's legal landscape.

"We see this as being a vital part of CGW," says Ward.

"These Advoc firms come together to build upon relationships and use the event's business forum to showcase and educate on what's happening in their regions and countries."

One of the hot topics on the discussion agenda for the 2016 forum is the globalisation of the profession, both in relation to firm capabilities and the increasing needs of clients.

Ward says it provides a timely opportunity to raise the issue that many firms face when it comes to differentiating themselves in a global marketplace.

"Most of the firms within the Advoc group are relatively small, so the challenge they will face is the globalisation of legal services," says Ward.

"We are seeing disruptors in place, new law, legal processing and outsourcing it's a very competitive marketplace."

Delegates will spend a total of five days in Queensland, with the Advoc Asia AGM set to take place on Friday 21 October.

The itinerary also includes conferences at the CGW office, visits to the Court of Appeal and the Gallery of Modern Art, and a day-trip to Noosa.
