Jason Momoa touches down for Gold Coast premiere of Aquaman

Is there a better place than the Gold Coast for the Australian premiere of the latest super hero flick?

After being filmed locally in Queensland, Aquaman received the 'blue carpet' treatment on the Gold Coast last night.

Star of the show, Jason Momoa, who plays the titular character, joined local cast and crew for the Australian premier at Robina's Event Cinemas.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also joined in the celebrations, saying the production of Aquaman was a big moment for the state's film industry.

"It's no secret Queenslanders have a great love of the water and while we've produced plenty of Olympic swimmers and world champion surfers, we've never had a deep-sea superhero to call our own until now," says Palaszczuk.

Aquaman was produced in Queensland and partially funded by the state government's $50 million Production Attraction Strategy.

The production generated 1000 jobs for Queensland cast and crews, another 700 roles for extras, and more than $144 million injected into the local economy.

The Premier says Aquaman has helped Queensland become a serious player as a producer of major blockbuster films.

"Queensland has the breathtaking locations and adaptable infrastructure to host any Norse God or Sea King," says Palaszczuk.

"In recent years the Village Roadshow studios have been transformed into Atlantis, Asgard, Skull Islandand even a table tennis venue for this year's Commonwealth Games!"

Aquaman will be released in Australian cinemas on 26 December.
