Aussie drone defender to join international 'Night Hawk' military exercise

Sydney-based drone defence company DroneShield (ASX: DRO) has been selected by Danish Special Operations Command to participate in the annual international 'Night Hawk' initiative.

DroneShield will take part in the major military training exercise which is run annually by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).and attended by around 1,800 personnel from 10 NATO countries.

Led by CEO Oleg Vornik, DroneShield will deploy its DroneSentry system at the Aalborg Airbase in Denmark between 19-21 September.

Vornik says his company is the only one worldwide that has been invited to deploy a 'detect and defeat' counter-drone system at the exercise.

"As the DroneShield systems are gaining momentum with the European end users, we are very pleased to have this opportunity to demonstrate our system to the Danish Special Forces, one of the most sophisticated Special Operations Command end users globally, at this high-profile military exercise," says Vornik.

DroneShield's futuristic-looking drone defence products range from a handheld jammer called the DroneGun to the advanced DroneSentry which provides maximum situational awareness and the quickest response to airborne threats.

The company's products have been used around the world in warfare situations, as well as by governments protecting critical infrastructure such as airports and major events including the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Texas law enforcers, including the Fort Worth Police Department and Texas Rangers, used DroneShield products to protect the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series at the Texas Motor Speedway.

DroneShield's footprint in Europe has been expanding rapidly since it entered the market. French president Emmanuel Macron reviewed the DroneGun earlier this year, and at the time Vornik said this exposure was just the tip of the iceberg.

"The US certainly has enormous opportunity in terms of the size of the market, but today we're in 50 countries and we see large opportunity across the globe," he said.

"We're making good headway in Europe on the whole. While yes, we are Australian headquartered and listed on the ASX with a substantial presence in the US, we very much see ourselves as a global business."

DRO shares previously closed at $0.16.
