Brisbane's QueensPlaza to undergo $36m revamp

Vicinity Centres, the owner of Brisbane inner city shopping destination QueensPlaza, announced on Friday that its redevelopment application for the centre has been approved by Brisbane City Council.

Through a $36 million development, the company plans to elevate QueensPlaza's precinct and shopping capabilities to cater for a growing demand in luxury brands.

Executive general manager of Vicinity Centres, Carolyn Viney said the new centre would include a collection of international luxury brands and iconic Australian designers, as well as two new restaurants.

"The QueensPlaza redevelopment has been designed to further enhance the centre's status as the leading luxury and lifestyle destination in Brisbane's CBD," says Viney.

The development concept has been prepared by Blight Rayner and PDT Architects and will also include improvements to lighting, centre amenities and new flooring.

With the approved works set to begin immediately, Viney says the focus is to create an element of indulgence.

"We want our customers as well as over one million tourists who visit Brisbane's CBD each year to take the time to indulge in the luxury and dining experience when they visit QueensPlaza," he says.

"Our focus will be to bring a new curated fashion, beauty and accessories offer to life, complimented by a premium dining experience."

Mainbrace has been appointed by Vicinity Centres as the design and construction contractor of the project with most of the works set for completion ahead of Christmas trading.

QueensPlaza first opened its doors in 2005 with anchor retailers David Jones and Coles, along with more than 60 high-end and speciality boutique retailers.
