Jurlique unveils new $30m natural beauty plant in the Adelaide Hills

One of Australia's leading natural skin care brands, Jurlique, has opened a new $30 million Natural Beauty Plant at Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills.

This opens the South Australian home-grown beauty brand to greater production and development capacities, as the new facility sits just a short distance from the Jurlique farm wher the company harvests its botanical ingredients.

Jon Westover, Jurlique managing director of global operations, says the new plant is a significant milestone for the company.

"Jurlique is over 30 years old and up until now has been operating out of another facility, and we've maxed that out, so to go forward into the future we needed a significantly increased capacity and capability," says Westover.

The new plant has been developed with the latest tech in water and energy management, consistent with Jurlique's culture of sustainability.

Westover says it was important for the company to grow its operations in South Australia, rather than looking to other locations. 

"Our products are made in South Australia, in the purity of the Adelaide Hills," says Westover.

"The natural brand provenance is very fundamental to the company. Our customers look to the credibility that the Made In Australia stamp has. We looked at alternative locations but came back to the logical conclusion that where we started is where we should remain."

"The purity of the Adelaide Hills is integral to the success of the brand. The farm and Natural Beauty Plant situated there are truly unique to the industry, and are at the heart of our belief that great skin care starts from the land."

Jurlique, which is owned by Japanese beauty company POLA Orbis Holdings, will tap into its parent's capabilities in research and development to give its customers a more natural beauty product.

"More and more consumers worldwide are demanding beauty products containing natural ingredients, which can deliver results - a trend which is driving massive growth in our market," says Westover.

"By working closely with Jurlique's parent company, the new plant will allow us to use the latest development techniques, ensuring we continue to create natural, efficacious skincare products that deliver now and in the future."

The company is also set to launch a new global brand campaign soon, with contributions from internationally renowned fashion and landscape photographer Derek Henderson, Australian botanical stylist Dr Lisa Cooper, and Australian based model Jira Mae.
