THE LOGIE AWARDS FIND A NEW HOME ON THE GOLD COAST

AFTER more than 50 years in Melbourne, the Gold Coast has secured the rights to host the TV industry's night of nights.

The Star Gold Coast will be the brand-new home for the TV WEEK Logie awards in a deal struck by the Queensland government.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says Queensland has secured the event for the next four years.

"My Government's commitment to the TV WEEK Logies is a great investment in Queensland," says Palaszczuk.

"We look forward to bringing Australia's greatest television performers to the Gold Coast, showcasing both the strength of our industry and the appeal of Queensland."

Securing the event from 2018 onwards ties the awards night in neatly with the increased publicity the Gold Coast will receive from hosting the Commonwealth Games.

Palaszczuk says the publicity delivered from hosting the awards night will boost tourism in the state.

"The Logies is Australian television's premier event, drawing more than one million viewers each year for the live broadcast," says Palaszczuk.

"The Logies will deliver more than $40 million in publicity value alone for Queensland while we'll also work closely with Bauer Media and Channel Nine to leverage the opportunity through two of Australia's leading media platforms."

The event will be hosted at The Star's newly redeveloped integrated resort from next July.

The Broadbeach property has recently undergone a massive transformation as part of an ongoing capital investment program.

Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Geoff Hogg says he is thrilled Queensland has secured the event.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the quality of The Star Gold Coast, and the exceptional climate of the region," says Hogg.

"Next year's TV WEEK Logies will showcase the transformation of the Gold Coast in recent years. As a city, we aren't afraid to think outside the square and leverage our unique location and lifestyle."
