THE ADELAIDE COMPANY TAKING AIR CONDITIONING SOFTWARE TO THE WORLD

ADELAIDE air-conditioning software company Delft Red Simulation Technology has seen international demand grow over the past year, comprising nearly 10 per cent of the company's sales.

Delft Red's Plandroid air-conditioning installation planning software has grown rapidly since 2010 with its simple software which allows users to drag and drop an air-conditioning infrastructure over a floor plan.

It's already been a success in Australia with more than 350 licences granted to date, and now 10 percent of sales have been secured on the the international market, including New Zealand, South Africa, South East Asia and the US.

The software also incorporates a budgeting process, allowing users to select individual parts from a number of suppliers and displays the exact cost of each part.

Delft Red has primarily used the software for residential purposes, but a few high-profile commercial clients have jumped on board too.

Owner Mike Garret says his biggest challenge has been getting the name out there.

"The biggest challenge is really getting exposure, getting people to know that I exist," says Garret.

"Some of the large Australian companies actually have branches internationally, and they use my product, so when they go somewhere else they say 'here's our new technology, oh and by the way you've got to use Plandroid'.

"So, these guys have really helped me do the selling."

Garret says the market "sweet spot" for Plandroid was larger installers designing aircon systems for high-end houses, where technical accuracy and professional presentation were paramount.

"I have a significant number of customers who use Plandroid for commercial designs such as shopping centres, factories and office buildings," says Garret.

Garret is excited for the future of the software, which he says in not just limited to air-conditioning.

"The product I've got is really great in that it can expand in a lot of directions," says Garret.

"It's mainly based on air-conditioning but in the future I'll do underfloor heating and solar calculations and designs, and wiring and plumbing and everything to do with the house you can do with the same concepts."
