SPC enters IP and marketing JV with Doehler

Fruit processor SPC continues its march into new market segments through the announcement of a joint venture with German natural ingredients powerhouse Döhler.

Within two months of acquiring pomegranate brand PomLife, SPC is bolstering its global expansion plans through the formation of Gourmet Ingredients Pty Ltd with Döhler.

Through the JV the two companies will develop intellectual property here in Australia to deliver culinary experiences across the globe, marketing and selling new products through Döhler's extensive sales and distribution channels.

SPC chair Hussein Rifai says the synergy of the two companies will help them deliver the kinds of food products consumers will look for in the future.

"Consumer palettes have become much more sophisticated over time and they expect consistency, high quality, natural and nutritional culinary experience," says Rifai.

"For today's consumer, food is now an adventure, and an experience.

"There is no better way to ensure food manufacturing security than to follow our business strategy which is to become a global player in food production. With the right support and partners like Döhler, if you think globally, you can take our Australian innovation to the world."

SPC CEO Robert Giles says the German company is a natural fit, having worked with some of the world's biggest brands including those borne from smaller countries like Australia.

"Döhler is widely recognised as a global leader in creating food solutions," he says.

"Their customers are who's who in the global food industry. Together we will be able to deliver to global consumers technology driven natural ingredients solutions."

Doehler Australia director Peter Gates notes the innovation and change that the new leadership has brought to SPC.

"This partnership will provide us with the opportunity to work together to develop some very unique integrated solutions for the global market," he says.

"With SPC's expertise in supply processing and manufacturing and Doehler's experience in creating innovative ingredients systems, the joint venture is the perfect marriage to promote and create Australian grown agriculture raw materials intellectual property that can be sold to the world."
