RAY'S VISION GETS AN OVERHAUL, AND A SEAL OF APPROVAL

RAY'S VISION GETS AN OVERHAUL, AND A SEAL OF APPROVAL WHEN Brian Ray developed the East Quay Corporate Park at Robina in the 1980s, he may have been considered a visionary, or maybe just another developer with stars in his eyes.

Tom Ray (pictured left with brother Jack), the eldest son of the late developer, reckons it was the former that led the developer to the city’s western wilderness all those years ago.

"Dad was always very forward-thinking, and when he looked at Robina in the 1980s - when it was little more than swamp and farmland - he could see that it had the potential to become a major business hub, and that's why he built East Quay," he says.

"He wanted an office space that felt more like a home than a stark corporate environment, and with the lake, gardens, shops and parks nearby that's exactly what it feels like.”

However, East Quay, which was one of the first office buildings developed in Robina, is no more – that is, no more in name at least.

Under the ownership of Clarence Property, the office park has had a $5 million refurbishment and has been re-named Lakehouse Corporate Space.

Ray, who attended the property’s relaunch, couldn’t be happier with the change.

"Ray Group was a tenant here for more than a decade and I know all of our staff enjoyed working here,” Ray says.

“I'm pleased to see that while Clarence has updated the facade and interior of the building to a more contemporary standard, they have still managed to maintain the heritage look and feel that makes Lakehouse different from all the other commercial buildings on the Gold Coast."

Lakehouse comprises two buildings and 36 tenancies located on Glenferrie Drive.

Clarence Property is now making a concerted push to lease the property amid a tight commercial market in Robina.

Clarence managing director Peter Fahey says he’s confident Lakehouse will prove appealing to small to medium businesses.

"As part of the relaunch and refurbishment we have done a repaint of the building, restored the timber boardwalk, completed extensive landscaping, upgraded the carpark and have replaced the amenities, lifts, fire services and air conditioning," he says.

"We have also opened a new display suite for prospective purchasers - which was very well received at the re-launch event - showcasing the flexibility of our floorplates and what can be done with the space on offer here.”

Lakehouse is being marketed by Knight Frank’s Tania Moore.
