New $50 million Rydges hotel to land at the Gold Coast Airport

Rydges have activated the landing procedures for its touchdown in the Gold Coast.

The federal government has approved a new $50 million hotel in the Gold Coast Airport precinct, aimed at both locals and onward travellers alike.

After receiving approval from the Federal Government, a seven-storey Rydges branded hotel will be developed in the Gold Coast Airport precinct.

With views over Kirra Beach and across the runway, the new hotel will include a rooftop bar and a viewing deck, with 192 rooms and suites.

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) CEO Chris Mills says construction will begin before the end of the year.

"This is a great project for the airport," says Mills.

"Visitors to the region will appreciate the hotel, which is close to both the beautiful Gold Coast beaches and the airport. And locals will use it too, especially those catching early morning flights."

"An airport hotel is something that has been missing at Gold Coast Airport and now that we have the approval, we can move ahead with another important part of our development plan designed to further activate the precinct and accommodate growth."

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack says the development will deliver a healthy boost to the Gold Coast economy.

"The [hotel] will significantly increase the number of people doing business in and around the airport precinct while attracting more investment into the region's economy," says McCormark.

"Construction and ongoing operation of the hotel will have a positive economic impact to the regionas well as the likely flow-on benefits through the demand for day to day goods and services needed to operate the proposed hotel."

QAL says the project will create 90 construction jobs and more than 60 jobs post-construction.

The development and operator is 100% owned by Trepang Services, and the hotel will be constructed under instructions from respected developer John Robinson AO.
