Twenty months after commencing work on a $265 million development at 83 Pirie Street in Adelaide, Sydney-based construction company Multiplex has put the finishing touches on the office tower in the heart of the CBD.
Designed by Sydney-based architecture studio Woods Bagot, South Australia’s newest state-of-the-art building is owned by real estate investor and developer Cbus Property.
With more than 30,000sqm of commercial space across its 22 levels, the six-star green-rated development is built on the grounds of the former entertainment hotspot Planet Nightclub.
“83 Pirie adds to our long-standing presence in South Australia, having delivered $500 million worth of projects in the region over the past 30 years and developed long-standing relationships with the community and local supply chain,” Multiplex regional managing director Graham Cottam said.
“We are delighted to have collaborated with Cbus Property and our local supply partners to deliver 83 Pirie ahead of schedule and despite ongoing challenges from COVID-19.”
The South Australian Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) will be the anchor tenant, consolidating its city-based operations from several locations throughout the city into one office building.
Occupants, residents and visitors to the building will enjoy views of the Adelaide Hills to the east from the landscaped rooftop terrace, which is fitted with a barbeque and outdoor seating for collaboration and team-building events.
With frontages to Pirie Street and Freemans Lane, the building’s façade includes distinctive sawtooth detail, bronze mesh, and custom L-shape pressed brickwork on the lower podium levels.
Some 1,745 construction workers were employed on-site throughout the build, which will be Adelaide's first commercial and retail mixed-use building to avoid using natural gas. The building will also provide electric car charging stations.
Cbus Property’s CEO Adrian Pozzo said 83 Pirie represented “the next generation of office design”.
“Combining market-leading sustainability, wellness and technology initiatives, 83 Pirie will provide truly best-in-class amenity, not to mention the positive outcomes for the community and the environment,” he said.
“This office tower is destined to capture a lot of firsts for Adelaide – the first all-electric, carbon-neutral-ready building; the first Platinum WELL v2 pilot pre-certified building; and the first commercial and retail mixed-use building that will not use natural gas.”
Established in Australia in 1962, Multiplex has delivered more than 1,000 projects with a combined value of more than $130 billion.
