FREE TOLLS DURING G20

FREE TOLLS DURING G20

STATE government will drop tolls on the Go Between Bridge and Gateway Bridges next weekend, in a bid to ease travel restrictions during the G20 Summit.

Motorists will travel free on the Go Between Bridge from Friday 14 November to Sunday 16 November, as well as the Gateway on Saturday 15 November.

Premier Campbell Newman says the move will provide easier access to the city while the summit takes place.

“The G20 will provide about $100 million worth of direct economic benefits for Brisbane, however we acknowledge there will also be some disruptions which is why we decided to waive the tolls on these bridges,” Newman says.

“Saturday will see the largest number of motorcade and vehicle movements occur and providing free tolls on these key bridges will help the travelling public get to where they need to go.”

The Australian Government will fund the free travel period for the Go Between Bridge, while state government will foot the bill for the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges at a total cost of $523,000.

The event will attract 4000 delegates and 3000 media representatives to the city.
