COUNCIL DELIVERS ON BUILDING SUBSIDY

Written on the 20 August 2010

GOLD Coast City Council has released details of its allocated $4 million subsidy for the construction industry.

To date $3,979,554 has been committed for 36 short-term, shovel-ready projects. New apartments, medical and child care centres, shops and offices are among the projects expected to share infrastructure charge subsidies, taken up in just minutes.

Council’s Sustainable City Future Committee chair, Councillor Peter Young, says it brings to $54 million the amount council has provided in direct support and subsidies to the development and construction industry in recent years.

“Obviously it has been well received, with the total $4 million available quickly accounted for. We will continue to monitor delivery of the qualifying projects. If they can’t be delivered they will make way for other applicants to qualify,” he says.

Young says the 36 projects would deliver; more than 730 houses, townhouses and units; 108 new blocks of land; and seven other industrial, retail, warehouse, medical and childcare projects.
