CONCIERGE IS NOW AN EVENTS BOSS

New technology will transform the way large corporate events are hosted and Blue Shadow Group owner Daniel de Vries (pictured) aims to be at the forefront of the change.

"There is an opportunity for us to host conferences where anyone from anywhere can be involved," says the 37-year-old.

"We are targeting big corporations, who might have 200-300 people in each state, but do not want to fly them all to the same location. It makes it more affordable for the company, while still giving  employees an opportunity to network."

Blue Shadow Group grew revenue by 25 per cent last year to $2.5 million and employs 21 people on the Gold Coast. The company is aiming for 20 per cent growth this financial year.

Establishing partnerships with interstate conference management companies is also on the agenda as de Vries aims to grow Blue Shadow's reach nationwide.

De Vries, a former concierge at the Marriott Hotel, started his company more than a decade ago after successfully pitching to Gold Coast City Council an idea to host movies at Macintosh Park, Main Beach.

He sold his first car to buy a PA system, then ran advertisements during the movies and collected gold coin donations from the thousands of viewers to fund the fledgling company.

De Vries then secured a contract to broadcast movies on the beach at Schoolies Week and also set up an outdoor cinema at Bahrain's Lost Paradise of Dilmun water theme park in 2009.

The business offers conference and event management including video and sound production and webcast facilities.
