PGA LOCKS IN ADAM SCOTT

ADAM Scott will pay a visit home to the Gold Coast in December to defend his Australian PGA Championship title.

Scott will contend the PGA title, the final of the 2014 professional golf season, between December 11 and 14 at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

It is the second time the resort has hosted the event, Scott defeating American Rickie Fowler by four strokes on the same green last year.

The tournament will be Scott's final stop on his Australian tour, which kicks off on November 13 at the Australian Masters in Melbourne and continues at the Australian Open in Sydney from November 27. 

“Whenever you’re defending you always want to return and relive all those good experiences from the previous years but particularly when you’re returning home to Australia and also the Gold Coast which is my home,” says Scott. 

“It was an amazing week last year coming home and playing in front of everyone, so many friends and family out there, but the support was great and I’m really looking forward to coming back this year.”

Minister for tourism, major events and small business Jann Stuckey says Scott’s commitment to the tournament is a major drawcard for the city.

“The Gold Coast provides the perfect playground for golfing enthusiasts, and Adam Scott’s return is sure to be a strong visitor drawcard for this year’s championship,” says Stuckey.

“The Australian PGA Championship was a success in its inaugural year on the Gold Coast in 2013 and now, as the final tournament for the 2014 professional golf season, the event will be bigger and better than ever.”

PGA CEO Brian Thorburn says the tournament will be the icing on top of a successful year of Australian golf.

The PGA manages the championship with the assistance of TRP Spors. 

“The Gold Coast is the perfect location for a world-class sporting event and we’re looking forward to returning at the end of the year,” says Thorburn.

“As the final event on the PGA Tour of Australasia schedule this year’s championship will be a week-long celebration of Australian golf with 2014 already one of the most successful years on record in terms of our international achievements.”

The RACV Royal Pines layout is undergoing a significant revamp before December on its front nine to ensure it is tournament-ready.
