GOLD COAST AIRPORT SCORES BIG WITH THE JET SET

GOLD Coast Airport has blitzed the field with jet-setting holidaymakers after being named the Best Regional Airport Australia/Pacific at the Skytrax World Airport Awards held in Paris this week.

It is the second time the award has been bestowed on the city's international gateway, having won it in 2011.

However, this year the airport even managed to rate on a global scale, with Skytrax ranking it ninth among regional airports worldwide, and fifth in the 5-10 million passenger category.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards, considered one of the most prestigious in the world, are determined by independent surveys of customer satisfaction levels and labelled impartial and independent of influence by airline or airport management. The awards are held in conjunction with the World Airline Awards.

"Winning the Skytrax award is a credit not only to all our Gold Coast Airport staff, but to those people who are employed in businesses at the airport," says Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer David Collins, who was on hand in Paris to receive the award,.

"The most significant part of these awards is that they are based on feedback from our passengers it is not an award that the airport can enter. To be recognised by the travelling public based on their experience at Gold Coast Airport is very important.

"The Skytrax awards are very prestigious world awards and will help not only lift our profile globally, but also increase the profile of the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region as a destination.

"To be held in such high esteem by our airline passengers is very humbling and we'd like to thank them for their continued support."

Skytrax is the world's largest airline and airport review site, and the World Airport Awards are based on 13.02 million survey questionnaires completed by over 112 different nationalities of airline passengers, covering 550 airports worldwide.

Gold Coast Airport also ranked third in the best airport staff category within Australia/Pacific in this year's awards.
