FULL-TIME JOBS GROWTH CONTINUES

FULL-TIME JOBS GROWTH CONTINUES

AUSTRALIA’s labour force continued its upwards trend of full-time employment in the month of June.

The latest ABS statistics show the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.9 per cent during June, but around 59,000 full-time jobs were created across the country. This was partially offset by a decrease in part-time employment of 35,600.

Just less than 11.5 million people are now employed across Australia, generating monthly aggregate hours worked of 1.6 billion.

Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser says the state has now experienced 20 straight months of full time employment growth.

“The trend unemployment rate in June dropped 0.1 percentage point to 5.2 percent, 0.4 percentage point lower than the recent peak in January.

"The drop in trend unemployment in June was supported by both part time and full time employment, which gained 1900 and 500 jobs respectively. Official figures now show there are 23,300 jobs to go before we hit the 100,000 (new) jobs target.

“Queensland is on a launch pad with a 140,000 jobs bonanza forecast over the next two years.”
