EX-MIRVAC BOSS JOINS SUNLAND BOARD

FORMER Mirvac boss Chris Freeman has joined the board of Brisbane-based developer Sunland Group.

Freeman, who was head of Mirvac’s Queensland operations for a decade before being appointed as chairman of Watpac in 2012, has taken a non-executive position on the Sunland board following his departure from Watpac in September.

The move marks a return to the Sunland board for Freedman, who briefly held a non-executive role with the property development group in 1997-98.

Freeman holds board positions with a number of organisations, including Brisbane Airport Corporation.

He is also chairman of the Queensland Performing Arts Trust, Vice-President of Tennis Australia and chairman of Urban Renewal Brisbane.

The appointment bolsters Sunland’s board to five directors, which currently include chairman and founder Soheil Abedian, managing director Sahba Abedian and non-executive directors Ron Eames and Craig Carracher.

Sahba Abedian says the appointment of Freeman will boost the diversity and experience of the current board as the company proceeds with a project portfolio totalling $4 billion across the eastern seaboard of Australia.

A significant part of that portfolio is now located in south-east Queensland including two new high rise projects for Brisbane and a suite of developments for the recovering Gold Coast market.

“Chris’s exceptional industry experience, proven leadership qualities and deep understanding of Australia’s property and finance markets will provide invaluable insights as we continue to implement our strategy and deliver on our commitment to shareholders,” says Abedian.
