EDITOR AWARDED GOLDEN QUILL

EDITOR AWARDED GOLDEN QUILL

BUSINESS News Publications group editor Jason Oxenbridge (pictured with head of journalism at Bond University Mark Pearson) scooped a double at the 2010 Media and Corporate Club awards on the weekend.

Oxenbridge was awarded a win for the ‘best feature’ story of the year for his piece on CuDeco chairman Wayne McCrae and his gallant tale of survival after he was thrown into the blades of the chopper he was flying after it crashed in western Queensland.

The Gold Coast Business News editor was also awarded the top honour with the Golden Quill prize, recognised for consistent high achievement in journalism.

Organisers said Oxenbridge had a ‘reputation for asking bold questions that get straight to the point’.

“I’m humbled to accept this award given the high calibre of finalists,” says Oxenbridge.

“To be recognised by peers who consistently punch above their weight in what has been a tough economic climate for all mass media is an honour. More than anything though, the win is a reflection of the arduous hours put in by a very adept team at Business News Publications.

“We are a small publisher creating a giant reach for our advertisers while keeping our readers updated and entertained with the latest in business news. I’m proud to say that while conditions have been tough, we continue to hire staff and build magazines and that’s the real winner.”

Other winners were popular Gold Coast PR consultant Wayne Hickson for the ‘big Macca’; The Spirit of the Gold Coast Award was won by Susan Sullivan Boyd, who heads up the Mantra PR machine; and The Best Advertising Campaign winner was Surfers Paradise Alliance for Surfers Paradise Festival.
