Adelaide Crows subsidiary kicks a virtual goal with landmark esports deal

A subsidiary of the Adelaide Crows AFL team has entered into a partnership with Aussie esports platform Mogul (ASX: ESH) to drive expansion and player growth into new regions around the world.

Legacy Esports, bought by the Crows in 2017, is one of the most established and successful esports competitors in the Oceania region across some of the world's most popular games including Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch and Starcraft II.

Mogul is a is a world class esports tournament organisation tool, and this new partnership with Legacy brings a number of significant 'firsts'.

For instance, Legacy was the first ever esports organisation to be purchased by a mainstream professional sporting body in Australia and it has now become the first Aussie team of ambassadors to join Mogul.

As part of the deal, Legacy will compete on the Mogul tournament for cash prizes and will also work to encourage and engage their large fan base to also actively participate in Mogul tournaments.

In the first partnered tournament series following the partnership, members of the public will be able to compete against Legacy's world-class players vying for thousands of dollars' worth of gaming laptops supplied by Razer.

Chief strategy and commercial officer of Mogul Jamie Skella says the company is proud to work with the iconic team.

"This partnership model is truly win-win in nature I'm excited about the role it will play as an economic accelerator for everyone involved," says Skella.

"One of the many forthcoming partnerships of its kind, it represents our ability to support the industry with market-leading tournament technology and have industry actors share in our success as we grow."

The deal furthers a 2019 hot streak for Legacy which in January secured a major sponsorship deal with Samsung.

At the time, Samsung's chief marketing officer Josh grace said Legacy would play a part in redefining the national standard for athleticism.

"Esports is one of the most captivating and exciting fields of professional competition in Australia and is redefining how people bring together athleticism, precision, and the best forms of performance technology," said Grace.

"As a brand, we're committed to supporting Australians to break barriers and achieve amazing things through our 'Do What You Can't' spirit and look forward to following the success of Legacy Esports in 2019."

Esports is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. According to Newzoo, it's estimated that in 2013 there were 2.3 billion gamers across all platforms globally and the games market was estimated to be worth more than $137.9 billion worldwide.
