Legal educator wins esteemed award

College of Law Queensland's executive director Ann-Maree David has been named recipient of the esteemed Agnes McWhinney Award, presented by the Queensland Law Society.

The Agnes McWhinney Award recognises female practitioners for their professional contributions throughout their career and is named after Queensland's first female solicitor.

In addition to her role at College of Law Queensland, David is the vice president of the Women Lawyers' Association of Queensland, the president of Australian Women Lawyers and the director of the Australian Gender Equality Council.

Queensland law Society's president Ken Taylor says David is a deserving winner who has made significant contributions to the legal landscape throughout her career.

"All of our nominees are a tribute to not only women lawyers but the entire legal profession," says Taylor.

"This year's award went to Ann-Maree, who has spent more than 30 years in Queensland's legal profession and devoted much of her career to formal education and ongoing professional development."

"Ann-Maree has been involved in legal education for some time, even working for Queensland Law Society earlier in her career."

Taylor notes that David was responsible for implementing teleconference as a method of education when it was still new technology.

"We are proud to have Ann-Maree as a leader in our profession," he says.
