Major Adelaide Fringe Festival venue goes cashless with Mint Payments

Listed payment processing technology provider Mint Payments (ASX: MNW) has teamed up with a popular Adelaide Fringe Festival venue to take the festival cashless.

Mint Payments is deploying its technology at the Royal Croquet Club, one of the major venues at the Adelaide Fringe Festival; the largest arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

The iconic Adelaide Fringe Festival is expected to attract more than one million people between February 16 and March 18 with Mint Payments' technology being installed and used in all of the approximately 50 bars and food pop-ups.

Roberto Cardone, the director of the Royal Croquet Club, says trying to go completely cashless was difficult considering how much of a burden cashless payment systems were on the 3G network.

"This year, all of our food and drink venues are cashless," says Cardone.

"Given how much our patrons love being on their mobiles and sharing the experience on social media, this has posed a huge challenge in the past given many other payment platforms rely solely on 3G."

Cardone says the Royal Croquet Club chose Mint's cashless Bluetooth payment solution to speed up service times at venues, and eliminate the risk of downtime or disruption for festivalgoers.

"They're the only partners who gave us a completely cashless solution we could be confident in," says Cardone.

Alex Teoh, the CEO of Mint Payments, says it is an honour to be selected as the payments partner for the second largest Fringe Festival in the world.

"The Fringe is such an icon in the cultural calendar," says Teoh.

"The speed of set up and ease-of-use makes our technology ideal for large scale events, like the Fringe Festival, with so many pop-up vendors. It's a real honour to help Fringe create an even more rewarding experience for festival goers this year."

"With over $1 million in transactions processed in the opening week alone, this is set to be one of the festival's biggest years to date."

The company says the momentum from the Fringe Festival partnership will allow it to take its payment solution across Australasia and Asia.

Shares in Mint Payments are down 5.13 per cent to $0.04 per share at 10.52am AEDT.
