DLA PIPER PIPS BIG FIRMS TO THE TAX POST

DLA Piper has won the Australia Tax Firm of the Year Award at the Asia Tax Awards for 2016, adding fuel to an already burning flame in the international finance sector.

Taking out the title over other big shortlisted names in the accounting firm sector, including Baker & McKenzie, PwC and KPMG, DLA Piper's win comes off the back of a significant year of expansion and project work.

Jock McCormack, partner and head of tax for DLA Piper Australia, accepted the honour at the prestigious awards ceremony hosted by the International Tax Review in Singapore earlier this month.

McCormack is proud of his team's commitment towards making DLA Piper an example of best practice in complex work, from mergers and acquisitions and capital raisings to technical tax developments on an international scale.

"This award signifies that we have made significant in-roads into the premium end of international tax work," says McCormack.

"I think that we've been able to really work effectively and productively with our colleagues all over the world to bring our multinational clients coordinated, considered and leading-edge tax solutions.

"It's been a very well thought through and executed team strategy, and this award is just one aspect of the recognition we have secured for moving the practice as we have in recent years."

According to Sydney-based McCormack, DLA Piper's Brisbane office has played no small part in the firm's recent success, having been instrumental to a number of key dealings overseas.

"I work closely with several of our Brisbane colleagues, and they have been at the forefront of DLA Piper's international work and development, coordinating a number of major projects throughout Asia, the Middle East and across Europe," says McCormack.

"We view Brisbane as a key market, because it's the closest Australian office to Asia and is very actively involved with many of its developments."

In the coming months McCormack says the firm will continue its recruitment drive both nationally and overseas.
