NEW EVENTS TO PROVIDE INSIGHT AND ADVICE TO INSPIRE SYDNEY BUSINESS OWNERS

A NEW series of City of Sydney business seminars titled City Thought Leaders will bring together successful Sydney business operators to share first-hand experience and expert advice.

Held at Customs House on the last Wednesday of every month through to November, the series will inspire existing, and aspiring, business owners.

Real people will tell real stories about their experience in business that will allow the audience to take away valuable lessons and insightful advice from those who have 'been there and done that'.

Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, says the city offers wonderful opportunities for a diverse range of businesses to launch and thrive, and the new Thought Leaders series is another way to nurture economic growth across the city.

Previous speakers have included Alex Elliott, from Howery Cornerstone (pictured top), Jessica Ruhfus from Collabosaurus, Emilya Colliver from Art Pharmacy, and Sarah Doyle and Joseph Valore from Porteno Bodega (pictured right).

"Gaining insights from the city's most successful business leaders is an invaluable learning opportunity for startups and local businesses seeking to expand," says Moore.

"The practical information, creative solutions and advice offered by successful business owners will help small businesses avoid making potentially costly mistakes."

Sydney is a vibrant and dynamic city that generates $108 billion each year and makes up 7 per cent of Australia's economy.

"Small businesses are the powerhouse of our local economy, representing 85 per cent of all businesses in our area and contributing nearly $20 billion to the economy," says Moore.

"Hearing success stories can give our local businesses the tools they need to grow and flourish, and by helping small businesses try new things, we can boost their capacity to attract new customers."

In addition to the Thought Leaders series, the City of Sydney has an array of resources available to support businesses including local area profiles highlighting the economic characteristics and unique character of each location within the city.

"Our seminars are just one of our many programs that give businesses invaluable insights, access to networks and the tools for growth," says Moore.

There are nine seminars remaining in 2017, and they are:
  • Elevated state: customer experience is everything Wednesday 29 March;
  • Play hard: how businesses can exploit Sydney's festival scene 26 April;
  • No 'i' in 'team': understanding how vital staff is to a business 31 May;
