QANTAS TOURISM INVESTMENT BUILDS ON RISING VISITORS FROM ASIA

A NEW $9.78 million tourism deal between Qantas (ASX:QAN) and Tourism Events Queensland will promote the state through social medial and digital channels in an effort to grow domestic and international visitor numbers.

The new three-year deal builds on partnership that began in 2013. Alongside the focus on social media, it will include trade partner campaigns, public relations activities and trade and media visits.

Qantas introduced direct daily flights between Brisbane and Tokyo in August 2015 and Qantas CEO Gareth Evans says passenger numbers have "increased beyond our expectations".

"In the last three years, we have seen a double digit percentage increase in the number of travellers from Asia to Queensland," says Evans.

Asia, United States, New Zealand and the United Kingdom are the international target markets.

The Queensland deal comes eight days after Qantas announced a similar $28 million, three-year partnership with the NSW Government. Qantas, with QantasLink, services 20 destinations in Queensland and connects the state to more than 200 destinations around the world.
