GLOBAL PLAYER JOINS COMMONWEALTH GAMES AS TECH SPONSOR

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) has secured the IT supplier of the Olympics to power the 2018 Games.

Atos will deliver digital solutions in the planning and staging of the sporting event, including a comprehensive Games Management System (GMS) and Information Diffusion System (IDS).

The French technology company is the worldwide IT partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, having offered its services to the organising committee since Barcelona 1992.

GOLDOC chairman Peter Beattie AC says both solutions will be crucial to the development of a world class technology framework.

"This level of commitment gives businesses across the country and Commonwealth confidence in the GC2018 brand and highlights the significance of being involved in this global event," Beattie says.

"Atos will bring innovations to GOLDOC which will ultimately underpin the very complex and critical technology framework and services to power a successful GC2018."

Atos employs 100,000 staff across 72 countries, with the Australian team operating primarily in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

Domestic clients include BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority, Australian Federal Police and Australian Department of Defence.

Atos Australia managing director Peter Robertson says the advanced IT system will be delivered from an Australian hosted and managed cloud platform.

The GMS will support accreditation management, the volunteer portal, volunteer application form and sport entries management. While the IDS will broadcast live results on the Games website for the public.

"GC2018 gives Atos a platform to leverage our expertise, share our knowledge and deliver a team-based highly innovative IT solution befitting of such a grand scale event hosted in Australia," Robertson says.

The Atos team will be embedded with GOLDOC at its headquarters on the Gold Coast, while technologists will support the system from the Technical Technology Operations Centre in Spain and the Australian Canopy data centre.
