NEW SUPERMARKET WORTH $100M TO QLD

PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has toured Woolworths Limited's $50 million development at the Everton Park Retail and Home Improvement Centre.

The supermarket is expected to invest $100 million into the state and create almost 2000 construction and retail jobs.

Palaszczuk says the facility demonstrates Woolworths' commitment to working with Queenslanders and contributing to the economy.

"This $50 million facility won't just be a cornerstone of the local community, it will be a jobs-generator for years to come," she says.

"There were 1000 direct and indirect construction jobs associated with this project, plus 600 ongoing local retail job opportunities going forward.

"That's why I want to congratulate Woolworths for announcing a further $100 million investment in Queensland, creating an additional 2000 jobs."

Brisbane City Council approved the development plans for the Stafford Road site in 2012, after it had remained vacant for more than 15 years.

Woolworths QLD operations manager Michael Batycki says the investment ensures the company's modern retail stores reaches more Queenslanders.

"We look forward to working with the Queensland Government and communities right across the state, as we roll out our new stores and grow our workforce," Batycki says.

Woolworths Limited employs more than 40,000 in Queensland.

The supermarket will officially open on May 12.
