NEW FACILITY GIVES DB SCHENKER COMPETITIVE EDGE

DB SCHENKER has unveiled its new freight forwarding facility in Brisbane to boost its share of the state’s $88 billion import and export industry.

The renovated Eagle Farm plant will allow the logistics company to handle perishable products, as well as its existing dry freight capabilities.

The cool rooms will be equipped to house a number of products for transport, including meat, seafood, dairy, confectionary and pharmaceutical supplies.

It forms part of a $10 million investment over the next 10 years to introduce a warehouse with integrated cold chain facilities.

Schenker Australia Pty Ltd CEO Ron Koehler says the facility is central to the company’s growth strategy.

“In the past year there was around $4.5 billion of beef, other meat, wheat and vegetables exported out of Queensland alone,” Koehler says.

“We are now in a position to be able to better serve this sector, as well as other commodities that are imported and exported out of South East Queensland by both air and ocean.

“Our state of the art Eagle Farm facility is also well positioned to cater for normal retrieval and handling activities for import and export air and ocean freight.”

The facility has been accredited by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service and can accommodate up to 120 standard pallets of stock in the chiller.

It’s the second location to open in Queensland this year for the German company, following the opening of an Ipswich warehouse in August.
