THIRTY kilometres may be a little longer than your average beach stroll, but it’s not every day you’re walking for cancer.
The Walk 30ks for Cancer event is taking place on October 24, starting at the Spit and finishing at Coolangatta Surf Club with all proceeds going to the Ovarian Cancer Australia foundation.
For event organiser Amanda Williams the day marks the fourth anniversary of the loss of her mother to ovarian cancer.
“For me, cancer is about pain,” she says.
“The idea behind the 30km walk is to push through the pain barrier and come out with positive thinking.”
Williams says she hopes to change the anniversary of her mother’s death from a day of sadness to one of celebration.
The event is aiming to raise $10,000 for ovarian cancer and will be followed by a family barbecue at Coolangatta.
Registrations close on Saturday October 10.
