TRIBUTE TO 'INNOVATOR' STEVE JOBS

THE innovative skills of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (pictured) have been recognised by Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr.

“Steve Jobs was a powerful driver of successful innovation that transformed lives through the impact of devices developed by Apple, as well as those which were produced by its competitors sometimes in response to Apple,” he says.

“His visions through the Apple I and II computers helped to make the power of computing available for people to use in their everyday lives.

“His influence has spread across the entire information and communications technology spectrum. In fact he has led the development and adoption of innovations that bring them together seamlessly.”

Carr credited the iPhone with transforming the way we interact.

“The iPhone set a new direction for online as well as voice communications, not to mention the ancillary capabilities presented by numerous applications that make the iPhone a very versatile cross-spectrum tool,” he says.

“This was preceded by the iPod as a must-have entertainment and storage accessory and the more recent emergence of the iPad that has been a standout in the tablet field.

“While the Apple story is broader than just one man, there is no doubt that Steve Jobs’ involvement with Apple is an example of just how innovation is a fertile driver of business success.”
