Treat 'em green keep 'em keen

A COMPANY that has developed patented technology for a renewable energy source is the latest to move its operations to the 4.05ha Mitchell EcoEnterprise Park at Yatala.

Hidro+ has zero-fuel and emissions and the smallest ecological footprint and the lowest cost of energy production for the development of its power station which is powered by gravity, buoyancy, pressure and density gradients.

It’s the latest in a select ‘green’ ensemble of businesses to set up shop at eco-conscious entrepreneur Bruce Mitchell’s $20 million facility, located within Gold Coast City Council’s Yatala Enterprise Area.

In an Australian first, the park has received a ‘six leaf’ certification from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, which requires satisfying all six envirodevelopment elements of ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community.

The park’s facilities and innovations were recently displayed to representatives from IFHP (International Federation for Housing and Planning) and EAROPH (Eastern Organisation for Planning and Housing).

Mitchell says there are nine ‘green tenants’ on the estate, which is not connected to council mains or sewerage facilities.

“I am delighted to bring this concept to fruition and am appreciative of the Gold Coast City Council for their support in enabling our successful certification,”
he says.

“Interest in the estate has been high, we’re already at full capacity with a waiting list of businesses wanting to relocate here. We have attracted businesses that share our passion and commitment to preserving and improving our current environment.”

Area councillor Donna Gates, says the Yatala Enterprise Area has been identified as a key growth area for the Gold Coast.

“It’s a great package for businesses looking at the area – the Mitchell EcoEnterprise Park provides an environmentally conscious solution, while council can provide the support and assistance to facilitate it,” she says.

Mitchell says the centre would provide visitors with three main functions – an environmental product and services information portal, a business events meeting space and an organic restaurant.

Other tenants include Solar Green Australia and Anika Natural Products.
