Zero Co launches campaign to get Australians to ditch single-use plastics

High profile Aussies and sophisticated investors are backing a new eco-startup that's getting us to go zero.

Zero Co is an Australian business hoping to eliminate single-use plastics from every Australian kitchen, laundry and bathroom.

The startup has already raised $600,000 during a pre-seed capital round with an experienced mix of investors putting their weight behind the new business.

These investors include Rob Chapman, former CEO of St George Bank and Adelaide Crows chairman, Jennifer Ma, a former director of KPMG, and Alana Burton, former QBE CFO and board member.

Today Zero Co launches its Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund for additional capital to fund the production of a range of household products to replace single-use plastics.

The startup's Kickstarter campaign has already attracted the attention of Australian celebrities like Osher Gunsberg, Layne Beachley and Ash Grunwald who are actively calling on the public to remove single-use plastics from their households.

"We're not here to preach to Australia about the plastic problem everyone knows it exists," says founder of Zero Co Mike Smith (pictured).

"Instead, we're committed to building a solution that changes the average household single-use plastic consumption from around 200 bottles every year to zero."

"We can't build this on our own. We need Australia's help to turn off the plastic tap, for good. We have an opportunity to show the world that Australia can be leaders in this space, so now is the time to show your support to make this a reality."

Zero Co is built on the principles of the circular economy. The model works by customers ordering products which are then returned to Zero Co and refilled.

Customers fill their dispensers and return the refill pouches using the postage-paid return envelope, either by dropping them in a post box or booking a pick-up. Zero Co then cleans the pouches, refills them and ships them back out to customers. Delivery is carbon neutral and free for orders over $80.

The initial product range will include laundry liquid, stain remover, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, handwash, bodywash, toilet cleaner, multi-purpose spray, bathroom cleaner and air freshener, with plans to expand the range next year. Everything inside the bottles is 100 per cent designed and made in Australia from plant-based formulas.
