Way Ahead and beyond: The ultimate guide to Gold Coast Business Week 2019

Way Ahead and beyond: The ultimate guide to Gold Coast Business Week 2019

The Gold Coast has cemented its position as one of Australia's most exciting small business hubs.

Global investors, thought leaders and innovators are set to explore its further potential at Gold Coast Business Week 2019 (8-12 July).

GC Business Week will once again culminate in its signature 'Way Ahead' event on Friday 12 July.

Way Ahead will feature a keynote addresses by award-winning global futurist and speaker Chris Riddell alongside three of Australia's most influential entrepreneurs from Shark Tank.

Janine Allis will share insights from her journey as a self-made businesswoman who grew a juice and smoothie empire from her kitchen bench to an international success story.

Alongside Boost Juice, Allis is the entrepreneur behind Salsa's Fresh Mex Grill, Betty's Burgers and CIBO Espresso.

Founder of Greencross Dr Glen Richards will take attendees through his wealth of experience as a professional investor, mentor and director of several companies.

Dr Richards sits on the board of ASX-listed companies Healthia, People Infrastructure and Regeneus. His area of interest is to help health and allied health companies scale their businesses.

The trio of sharks is completed by none other than Steve Baxter, one of Australia's most successful tech entrepreneurs and former Queensland Chief Entrepreneur.

Baxter is the founder of Transition Level Investments, a company which invests in early stage startups, as well as popular Brisbane co-working hub River City Labs.

Way Ahead will also concurrently feature three separate panel sessions on the topics of AI, blockchain and robotics, marketing for the consumer and the new economy.

These breakout sessions are packed with some of the country's most talented Young Entrepreneurs including Taryn Williams, Mia Plecic, Nick Bell and Layton Mills.

While GC Business Week is packed with sessions that provide essential guidance for SMEs, Mayor Tom Tate says the Way Ahead event is truly not to be missed.

"The success of the inaugural event last year really proved the passion that Gold Coasters have for business development and new opportunities," says Tate.

"Gold Coast Business Week is a real opportunity to learn about emerging business trends and opportunities to grow in a city that is way ahead."

Chris Riddell's featured address on Friday will provide deep insights into the fusion of humanity and technology.

He will also explore the new styles of leadership that businesses need in order to thrive in the long term, plus key trends and new waves of disruption that will be happening over the next three years.

Riddell's own journey as a technologist and now futurist has been shaped by fast paced innovation.

"Since the beginning of my career I've been in the technology industry and I've always found myself in new or complex areas where I've had to translate complex ideas into digestible messages," he says.

"Attending events like GCBW19 is critical to broadening your prospective on the trends and the movements that are taking place around the world. It's also about taking the opportunity to discover new ideas and ways of thinking.

"We must create a culture where innovation is deeply embedded within the structure of the business."
