WAREHOUSES AND VEGETABLE GARDENS INSPIRE NEW WEST END DEVELOPMENT

BRISBANE'S West End is set to receive a new apartment development inspired by the diverse community and established housing of the area.

Turrisi Properties are bringing 107 brand new apartments to the sought-after Donkin Street location.

Architects at ROTHELOWMAN have created a design for INK Apartments that celebrates and preserves the area's existing landscape, combining the aesthetic of the warehouses and the established Victorian era homes in the neighbourhood.

The development is of personal significance to Gaetano Turrisi of Turrisi Properties, whose Italian heritage is steeped in the culture of the West End.

"It's more personalised in the fact that we live in the area and we're very much aware of its past, so that's influenced our thinking for the landscape spaces in the building," Turrisi says.

"We understand it, we're locals."

Over eight storeys, INK will include one, two and three-bedroom apartments, along with three luxurious 'skyhomes' of which two have sold at up to $11,100 per sqm.

A defining feature of INK is its rooftop recreation area with gardens, dining areas and a barbecue, intended to replicate the village sensibility of the West End streets below.

Jeff Brown from ROTHELOWMAN says the roof level space is perfect for residents to escape the hustle and bustle of the streets below.

"The rooftop recreation experience and design has been influenced by the vegetable gardens of the locals in the Wed End precinct," Brown says.

"Our aim has been to capture the sensory experience of the neighbourhood and channel this into a contemporary apartment development."

Priced from $399,000, INK's affordable price tag allows first homeowners the rare chance to enter the West End market.

The $61 million development is currently selling, with construction expected to begin in early 2016 and is due for completion in 2017.
