Surfers Paradise Marriott set for $35m rebrand

The Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa will have a new name and look in December as part of a $35 million rebrand to bring a new luxury aesthetic to the iconic hotel.

The upgrade represents the first introduction of the multinational chain's JW Marriott brand in Australia, named after John Willard Marriott, Sr who founded the group.

With the property reimagined by Design studio DBI, the original architects and interior designers behind the hotel, it will be relaunched as the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa.

"The opening will signal the continued expansion of our luxury footprint in Australia as we continue to see strong demand within the luxury travel segment here," says Sean Hunt, Marriott International area vice president for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

"The JW Marriott brand, with its distinctive luxury philosophy, will resonate with these travellers, who seek exceptional, thoughtfully-crafted services and experiences."

The upgraded resort has been designed to promote and reflect the beauty and relaxed mood of coastal Queensland, with public spaces refined but still retaining the emblematic features of the original tropical design.

The building's Citrique restaurant will undergo an extensive refresh and reconfiguration using light and texture to encapsulate the surrounding hinterlands, while featuring a new interactive show kitchen, placing fresh local produce and seafood at the heart of its daily menu.

Misono, the resort's teppanyaki restaurant, will expand to incorporate an 'avenue' of new Japanese dining experiences including an intimate Izakaya, tearoom and sushi bar, accompanied by a new Japanese whisky bar.

"We are absolutely delighted to be embarking on the transformation of our tropical paradise oasis to offer genuine luxury experiences here on the golden beaches of the Gold Coast," says Ravinder Dhesi, general manager, JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa.

"We look forward to welcoming our guests back to our enhanced resort and to anticipating their every need with our exceptional levels of service and warm and welcoming team."
