Sunsuper to support local businesses with up to $15,000 in grants

Sunsuper's Dreams for a Better World program is giving Australian small businesses the chance to win up to $15,000 to help make a positive impact in their community.

Sunsuper is looking for businesses with up to 200 employees to apply for a business grant before Friday, 2 August 2019.

Sunsuper CEO, Scott Hartley says the small business grant was one of the many ways the national fund was continuing to provide support to local businesses and Australian communities.

"The grant is aimed at helping businesses with big ideas to tackle social issues which affect our members and the wider community including unemployment, financial stress, mental health, and sustainability," says Hartley.

"We're looking for businesses and social enterprises with unique and innovative ways to make a change for good in their communities."

Sunsuper's first small business grant was awarded to Canberra-based, GG's Flowers and Hampers in 2018.

Co-founder of the florist, Nip Wijewickrema (pictured right) created the business six years ago with the sole purpose of offering meaningful paid-work for people with disabilities like her sister, Gayana (pictured left), who has Down Syndrome.

"After winning the Dreams for a Better World grant I was flawed by the generosity of Sunsuper and their partners," says Wijewickrema.

"They've embraced what we're doing and are helping us to promote inclusive workplaces. Sunsuper got behind our dream to get local people with disabilities into paid employment and provide a safe, compassionate and caring workplace.

"The grant helped us purchase a second vehicle and expand to nearly 40 employees with special needs during peak times, like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day; our plan is to expand nation-wide."

Since 2011, Sunsuper's Dreams for a Better World program has supported more than 115 grassroots causes that benefit Australians communities.

Applicants must be registered Australian businesses and been trading for at least 18 months.
