Southport to receive lavish $550m entertainment precinct

A $550 million retail, dining, entertainment and residential precinct is set to transform Southport on the Gold Coast.

Dubbed the 'Queen Street Village', construction is due to commence following the Commonwealth Games in April.

The precinct will be built on a 3.2 hectare site bound by Queen, Nerang and Little High streets in Southport.

Australian architecture firm The Buchan Group was tapped by Brisbane-based developer Property Solutions to design Queen Street Village in 2014.

Principal of The Buchan Group, Brett Saville, says Queen Street Village will be a large-scale project with at least seven mid-rise towers to be built.

The project will be a master-planned community, featuring showrooms, food and retail tenancies, offices, childcare and medical centres, high-rise living and a cinema.

Saville says the project was designed with vibrancy and lifestyle flexibility in mind.

"A key element of our design brief was to ensure the village could include a wide range of uses to keep the precinct active and vibrant over extended hours, and that it can be built in stages to suit the market demands of the Gold Coast," says Saville.

"The overall design will complement the site's physical characteristics and the wonderful Gold Coast climate while acknowledging the surrounding land uses."

The entire development has been designed with accessibility and pedestrian movements patterns in mind, transforming the site into a place where residents can really enjoy the space.

"This project will really cement Southport as a place where people can work, live and play within a village-style precinct," says Saville.

The Buchan Group recently finished projects on the Gold Coast at Harbour Town Shopping Centre, the Oasis at Broadbeach, and Robina Town Centre at Robina.
