SMALL BUSINESSES GIVEN THE CHANCE TO NETWORK AND EXPAND DURING QLD SMALL BUSINESS WEEK

QUEENSLAND is celebrating the engines of the local economy this month with Queensland Small Business Week 2017 (QSBW).

QSBW runs from May 15 to 20 and is a celebration of small business, giving owners the opportunity to acquire new ideas, skills and tools so they can take their business to the next level.

Events during the week will be held all around the state, from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, Mackay and Toowoomba.

One of the Gold Coast businesses participating in the week-long celebrations is Crampfix, a company behind a product aimed especially at footballers suffering from cramps.

Crampfix's Jan Buchegger says QSBW will help take his business to the next level.

"The week is vital because it raises the profile of small businesses and puts their ideas and products in the spotlight," says Buchegger.

Crampfix has been used extensively by the AFL club Greater Western Sydney Giants for the past two years, but Buchegger wants to push his product to the masses.

"In addition to supplying the Giants, I want the public to be able to purchase Crampfix," says Buchegger.

"The week will allow me to network and discuss strategies with other small business owners, so my dream becomes a reality."

Also participating is Gold Coast vet business Wet Noses Mobile Vet.

Co-founder Kara Roberts is hoping to collaborate with other vets during the week to lend each other a hand.

"I can't wait to network and discover what other small businesses are doing and if I can learn anything," says Roberts.

"We all have different backgrounds and skill sets, it's great to share information and discuss what works, what doesn't, and how we could help each other."

As part of the celebrations, Queensland small business owners and operators aged 16 years and above have the opportunity to win $10,000 through the QSBW social media challenge, sponsored by Australia Post.

Competitors need to film an innovative and unique video, and detail "how you can make your business thrive".

As of this morning, the entry deadline for the competition has extended until Monday 15 May to coincide with the launch of QSBW.
