New HQ for Telstra

TELSTRA has taken a 10-year lease on 1000sqm of office space at Bermuda Point, Varsity Lakes.

The telco has invested $9 million into its new Gold Coast headquarters, which brings together Telstra Country Wide, Sensis, Telstra Operations, Telstra Business and Telstra consumer teams.

Telstra operations manager Darren Whitney, says the relocation is about visibility and access to major transport nodes.

“It’s quite significant for us, moving out of Bundall and also our Ashmore site which were ageing facilities and under-utilised. Moving into a prominent new building at Bermuda Point is fresh and a wonderful environment for our staff,” he says.

“The key criteria for us with a sales-based workforce on the Gold Coast was accessibility and access to the M1 from north and south.
“It ticked all the boxes from a functional and operational perspective. It’s a significant investment in terms of time and dollars, so we are very happy with the selection we have made.”

The new Bermuda Point was opened by Telstra CEO David Thodey.
“It’s nice and central, you can set a new culture, people are interacting and we have really great technology. People are able to work more flexibly and I think that’s the sort of company we are,” says Thodey.

“The Gold Coast is growing region and is an important part of Telstra’s business in Queensland.”

Telstra Country Wide Area general manager Samantha Kennedy, says the move has been well received by the 160 staff who will work in the building.

“Telstra is the second largest employer on the Gold Coast, responsible for the employment of more than 1100 people in the region,” says Kennedy.

“It is great that we now have a single location for all of Telstra’s different businesses to coordinate all of our activity in the area.”
The space includes a curved glass façade that runs the whole length of the office with views across the lakes and Gold Coast Hinterland.

Other features include state-of-the-art conferencing facilities, modern meeting rooms and collaboration areas and a breakout area for informal meetings.
