MORE THAN JUST MONETARY VALUE: THREE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GET AN MBA
Written on the 4 September 2017 by Southern Cross University
AN MBA, or Master of Business Administration, can be your springboard to better career prospects, a career switch or increased success in the business world.
Aside from aspirations of becoming a high-flying CEO, there's more to an MBA than what it can offer in monetary value and impressive job titles.
Here are three reasons to study an MBA to help kick-start your career trajectory.
Have a global impact
Studying an MBA exposes you to a range of issues and scenarios that have global implications. You will find that your views begin to change as you discover just how far-reaching the world is, especially when it comes to business.
After completing your MBA online, you'll emerge into the world with an internationally-recognised degree where the possibilities are endless.
Once you've honed your network and management skills, you could discover a range of new opportunities available in every corner of the globe.
Become more marketable
Merylee Crockett is Director of HR at Incentive, a leading Australian IT services company.
She believes that candidates with an MBA are more likely to be commercially marketable and well-rounded business leaders.
"If someone came to me with an MBA, there are certain things I would assume to be true," says Merylee.
"I would assume they had the ability to apply themselves and I would assume they've really had their thinking challenged.
"I'd also assume they'd bring some of the latest industry thinking to our workplace."
An MBA certification communicates to employers that you have both business skills and experience, and therefore that you are a safe investment for their company.
"I've seen students pre- and post-MBA and there's no doubt whatsoever that they're more marketable," Merylee added.
Discover a new direction
People will benefit from the knowledge offered by an MBA, especially if they wish to get more out of their current career or even transition to a different line of work.
A recent Southern Cross University Online MBA graduate, Paul Betts, found the course to be particularly beneficial for his career development, providing him with the skills to navigate different areas of business.
"Almost immediately, I was able to apply a number of things I learned during the program directly to my work," says Betts.
"A good example - I'm doing a lot more interaction with the Board of the not-for-profit I'm working for at the moment.
"The subject on governance has really helped me to navigate a field which has been unfamiliar to me in the past."
Adaptability is an important part of the business world, and something an MBA encourages students to develop.
The ability to focus and refocus, based on the challenges of your industry, will ultimately enable you to make a bigger impact in your chosen field.
