MELBOURNE CANNABIS COMPANY CULTIVATES ITS FIRST CROP

MELBOURNE-based Cann Group (ASX: CAN) has completed its first cultivation cycle of medical cannabis at its Victorian facility.

Late on Friday 25 August, after the curing, drying and harvesting process had finished, the Office of Drug Control (ODC) approved Cann group to send samples of the crop for full analysis.

Cann Group harvested the plant material under its research and medical cannabis permits which allows for the breeding of plants for propagation purposes.

The crop is also the subject of a joint program with the CSIRO to develop unique cannabis extracts and supply plant material for manufacturing into products for direct patient use.

Cann Group CEO Peter Crock says while the first harvest is relatively small, it has been a key moment for the company.

"It has been important to validate our processes as we build up our capacity," says Crock.

"Being the first commercial product to be harvested in Australia, this is a key milestone for both Cann Group and the developing medical cannabis industry in Australia."

Cann Group has begun propagation for the next crop of plants that will go into production at the same facility.
