LAWYERS SLEEP ROUGH

LAWYERS SLEEP ROUGH

ONE Brisbane law firm has joined the campaign to end youth homelessness in Queensland by participating in the annual PropertyBlitz Street Sleep event.

Lawyers from Cooper Grace Ward - Camille Tewari, Gabrielle Honey, Sarah Dewar and Miranda Bird - slept on a sheet of cardboard to experience the reality facing an estimated 26,000 children who sleep rough in Queensland each night.

‘Team CGW’ raised more than $4,500 to aid in the delivery of the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) House Program, which acquires and renovates houses to be presented to charities and provide shelter to disadvantaged young people.

Tewari says the support she and the team received from friends, family and colleagues was overwhelming and it goes to show that there is a lot of passion for the cause.

“We are all part of a community that has been quite fortunate; we all have rooves over our head,” she says.

“However some kids aren’t that lucky and have very little control over the situation.

“We want to do what we can and support charities like PIF that aim to empower children in these situations.”

Australia-wide, the event raised more than $153,000 in 2014.
