A TOOWONG construction company has secured a $15.5 million contract from the Queensland Gas Company (QGC).
Hutchinson Builders will construct QGC’s new two-storey operations and production support centre in eastern Chinchilla, spanning 2800 sqm and accommodating up to 128 people.
The site will be secured on May 8 with construction works expected to last until early 2013. Up to 50 new jobs will be created including electricians, plumbers, mechanics, on-site labourers as well as administrative and health and safety staff.
Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba area manager Robert Weymouth believes the builder was chosen for its extensive experience and high-quality construction projects for the resources sector.
“We look forward to building on our strong relationship with QGC. As a Queensland company with established operations in Toowoomba for more than 15 years, we are pleased to be creating another 50 new jobs as a result of this contract win,” he says.
QGC managing director Derek Fisher says the new building reflects the company’s long-term investment in the area.
“Our operations will last decades and Chinchilla will be an important hub for our gas field operations,” he says.
Hutchinson previously constructed a $57 million supply modular accommodation and facility in the Surat Basin for QGC and a separate $7 million supply warehouse near the Queensland outback town of Miles.
